Did tuck two eggs with my ameracauna that want to be broody blue eggs that are extra large with that we are at 14, 1 banty eggs as of yet

21/30 - sold 10 dozens of eggs this week and consumed 3 doz

We just cartoned up 6 dozen to deliver to a cooking school tomorrow. We went from not having enough eggs to stacks of them in just a few weeks, so it was nice to get this regular outlet.
Found egg #15 tucked in the tall grass tonight. We might have to add another nest box or two to alleviate the henjam in the boxes when they all pile in to lay.

Possibly but sometimes a hen has a great desire to lay outside, hard to break. I had one 2 summers ago. She had 4 nests (in various locations as I found and removed them), including one quite close to the road. I finally gave up with nest #5, the 3rd by the pond behind the barn. At least that one wasn't too hard for me to get to. She even dared to go out there after the dreaded alpacas arrived in October. Thankfully last spring she decided to lay in the nests in the barn again. HOPEFULLY she will continue that this year, no real choice with snow on the ground at the moment.

I'm having the same "issue" here. We hardly had an egg to use and now we have a ton. Now that the newbies are laying, some of the older girls are back to laying in the corner of the coop on the floor. Chickens are fickle things!

This one is a Welsummer which has been known to occasionally lay (and think) outside the box. First time this year, but the laying logjam just started in the last couple of weeks and the snow finally melted and grass dried out the last couple days. We'll see if it continues. We do an egg hunt in the chicken yard each day anyway checking for strays.

Worse than the DST shift!! How many hours of light were they getting per day before you turned it off? We are pushing up to 12 hours per day so they should naturally be laying better.

i had LED lighting from dusk till dawn. so it was at least some dim light if not sunlight ...24 hours per day.

Hmmm maybe some styrofoam and mealworms will help

...ok will elaborate. Theory being that since mealworms have gut bacteria capable of digesting stryrofoam, the chicken would take that into their own gut after eating mealworms and could then benefit from eating styrofoam to boost egg production via the extra hormonal stimulus provided by the byproducts.
