Not any more you won't. I went to look at their website since this is the first I heard of them and it said they sold their hatchery to their neighbors at http://www.deerrunfarmmd.com/

That's great to know. I got hens and eggs from the Whitmores last year but knew the farm was near the end.

Yeah, should have mentioned that. I actually got our Wellies and Marans from Whitmore out of their last run before they sold their stock to Deer Run Farm. I get the newsletter from Deer Run and it looks like they are keeping up with the bloodlines, but I haven't dealt with them yet.

Yeah, should have mentioned that. I actually got our Wellies and Marans from Whitmore out of their last run before they sold their stock to Deer Run Farm. I get the newsletter from Deer Run and it looks like they are keeping up with the bloodlines, but I haven't dealt with them yet.

I hope they are a good business, always nice if one does live close enough to pick up their birds rather than have them shipped. No hatcheries near here, not even small ones.

One Caveat on Deer Run, their page on Welsummers says they can be sexed by sight. Specifically mentioned the distinct "V" on pullets, lacking on cockerels. Um, sorry, no. I got my 2 from Meyer. One had a V, one did not. They were temporarily named "V" and "Not V". We had read about the "sexing distinction" and were a bit concerned. Their names were later changed to Veronica and Betty.

I can sympathize with Donner. We had the same storm and I was in my nestbox mid-morning too!
