Depends on how long they live I have 4 of my original 12 from June 2012 still alive. 2 are still laying 2-3 a week spring and summer (so far) though not consistently. One is a Black Australorp, the other the EE mentioned below. I have 5 girls from June 2015 and their lifetime numbers are 50 to 60%+ of the days since their first egg.

My understanding is that sex links (never had any so I'm repeating what I have read) lay like machines for a couple of years then drop off fast.

Ok, is it correct to assume 1 egg per day per hen?? I have 7 hens, my average this month has been 5 to 6 eggs a day. They are 5 1/2 mos. old.

VERY much depends on the breed and then the individual bird. They usually start out well once they get into their groove and USUALLY (tell that to my chicks from April last year) lay through their first winter.

After their first adult moult the following fall(ish) many won't lay the next winter unless you force them with about 14 hours of light daily. Might depend on your location as well.

They will usually started tapering off on the eggs after their second year and from then on it is "your guess is as good as mine". I have 1 six year old Easter Egger who has never been a winter layer but still have a 41% six year average for number of days she has laid since her first egg. She has laid 862 eggs in ~2050 days since her first egg. And I have a 6 year old Faverolles that has laid 455 eggs in ~2090 days since her first egg.

I actually got to the coop cleaned it had to pull my mask down for them to know it was me 4 days I was last out there, the pneumonia is kicking this old hens butt I had 2 when I was there about 1 to clean with frozen watermelon, went again there was three top 1 bottom took the left left the one

One from nine hens. Production is way down. At least three are molting. My Barred Rock (age 2.5) hasn’t laid in a couple months.

Morning, not been to check yet as they'll still be in there. I wonder for those with dropping figures is it colder / darker than here? I have noticed what seems like a swift decrease in day length recent weeks. Seems only a few weeks ago my alarm was set for 10pm to lock up, then 9.45 (for ages), 9.30 then 9.15 but within days I had to alter it to 9.10!

I am getting 2 from 6 rare/heritage breeds most days; 1 went broody and is now rearing chicks ya), 2 haven't started laying yet (at 24 weeks and counting ), and one suffered an awful prolapse in the spring and any egg from her now is a miracle! The other two are laying 5 days out of 6, which keeps us in eggs, with some to spare, so I'm happy
