How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

13 eggs for me today. We have been under heat advisories too, so I have been limiting my time outside.
I have a hen trying to go broody in the main barn. I keep taking her eggs, but I know that when I leave on Tuesday for Jamaica my husband won't take the eggs from her. She bites! I almost always come home from trips to find at least 1 broody hen!

Taking the eggs won’t stop a hen from going or being broody. You need to keep her off the nest for a few days - 3 seems to work most often.

Yep, eggs or no eggs a broody will clamp down on their nest until their hormones are satisfied. That usually means the eggs hatch and the littles start peeping. No peeping, not getting off the nest. Thus the broody buster cage though in this heat I expect it would take a LONG time.

I know how that goes dumped the two silky in the tractor yesterday they want to brood again one layed so just one to break here putting 11 pullets in the main coop fills it again I can use the green coop as it was meant as for cockerel breaks again

I had to break a broody right before we left. Lily goes broody every 6 weeks or so. I was concerned on the timing as didn’t want her in jail while we were gone. She broke im the 3 days even with the 90+ temps. Didn’t even have to jail her that much - she spent a lot of the time dug into a sand pit - which may have helped cool her down faster. Just glad it worked!

Oh I hope not @Sequel! Having 1/3 of your layers going broody is good only if she is hatching eggs.

The other 10 haven't started laying yet.
