Unfortunately, I had already relocated my snake to the woods and released it before I went home to finish collecting eggs and noticed that one of the ceramic eggs was missing! I thought the lump in it was from a real egg. I don't kill our black snakes as they are good rodent control and don't get into the nest boxes very often.

I don't like killing black snakes either, but last summer ... For weeks I was only getting 0-2 eggs a day from 8 hens or so and finally caught the culprit in the nest, coiled among six eggs with two in him and another in his mouth. I was enraged! I won't go into detail but those were the last eggs he stole from me. I don't have a problem with snakes as long as they leave my eggs alone.

I have been very lucky on the snake front. I love our black rat snakes (the copperheads, not so much). So far none seem to have discovered the culinary delights of Gallus gallus domesticus. God willing it will stay that way!❤✝

No snakes here garden snake or garter depend on where your from good thing not here found one I would run screaming

You can keep them too ... they have them east of mountains

It gets to be second nature. Since I can’t hear their rattle I have learned to spot their movements.

7 from 10 hens. 6 are only 8 months old and just started laying about a month ago. 4 are 3 years and quit laying in December. Some eggs are quite small and others are good sized.
