My blue cochin is broody again she is just a year old now but second time

If there were an “I feel your pain” emoji, I would use it. I think it’s a chicken conspiracy worldwide. I’ve fought broody chickens since I got mine in February. Then factor in the extreme heat and egg production has went down the toilet. I’m super glad I added a good crop of pullets this summer and a probationary rooster!

I wonder if the heat had anything to do with it? If maybe heat causes the hen to release more of the hormones that stimulate broodiness? I honestly don't know, but it's definitely been the "year of the broody" around here

We got 1!!! Which happens to be our first one. Hubby is joking it’s the $4,000 egg and the rest are “golden” it’s sooo cute and tiny. Now to figure out who laid it. Only three of our flock are mature enough, one buff Orpington and two silver laced Wyandotte’s. Kiddo wants to camp outside tonight and stalk them to see who’s it is lol

My first egg was a 'fart egg' and I thought it was hilarious and yet somehow the end of the world!
Now, that same Hen lays eggs that are easily the size of turkey eggs.
