My red sexlinks/hybrids do that. What seemed to help is checking for eggs constantly throughout the day for a week, as well as placing fake eggs in the nests. Now it rarely happens (to my knowledge), mostly if a hen lays somewhere outside instead of in the nests.

13 today. 2 broody hens. One is a BC in the small, low population coop. I gave her some eggs and so far she’s being a great egg sitter. I learned last year that couldn’t be done in the big coop with 20 hens in and out of nests all day.

4 today. My good ol RSL has stopped laying due to old age, I think. She’s about to hit 2 and those production breeds typically don’t last longer than 2-4 years. Not wanting to lose my girl any time soon

Of course I only get one d’Uccle egg after I start collecting to incubate!

I think I know who might be the one. I have 3 suspects, 2 of which I have "proof". Suspect #2 is broody right now, so can't do anything to her yet.

I tried that year before last with like 115 some odd chickens all trying to get in the nest with the broody mama.. yeah no.

Works much better with 4 banty Cochins
