They have always had oyster shell free choice and growers pellets but they didn't have growers last time I went so they are on layers at the moment so calcium intake should be higher than normal.Don't worry please offer oyster shell free choice.
3 from big girls, 2 from banty crowd.
New layers can give you all sorts of weird eggs. That usually goes away once they get all the bugs worked out.so.... we got 3 eggs, 3 days in a row... then we got a tiny round egg a couple of days later... that I'm pretty sure is from a different chicken.... is it normal for them to start laying and then take a break? I went out this morning to tend to the girls and check for eggs... they were all singing the song of their people... which, btw, I didn't know was the song they would sing when one laid an egg... they started doing it a week before we got the first egg, and it sounded like they were either getting ready to explode or take off into space... they get very load and even animated... I love it lol....
yesterday, I was cleaning the coop and, when I went to clean out the boxes, Chicken Little came in and started going from one to another squatting and scratching until she decided on one box... she laid in it... making soft noises while she waited.... then Bob came in to watch her... occasionally leaning over to look behind her... as if waiting for her to lay an egg... finally, Chicken Little got up and made a loud noise and they both ran out of the coop... could that be a sign of a problem?
oh, also... they are supposed to be laying large eggs... however, the ones we've gotten are small... will that change once they've been laying for a while?
