How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Eight out of my nine big girls laid an egg today, but I’m going to award extra credit for the double yolker and round it up to a perfect score. I have 6 more little girls that are 11 weeks old hopefully they will add some more color to the basket in a few months.

6 today. I haven’t found any eggs outside the nesting boxes in about a week so I think everyone is finally using the boxes. I had been fighting a really stubborn Wyandotte about where to put them.
I think that when they first start laying, an egg on the way out can catch them by surprise, and they can't control it. Sort of like potty training a toddler. Sometimes they know what to do, other times not. LOL

Yea she is just like a toddler. She would go hide in a corner. I picked her up and carried her to the nest box several times and even put obstacles in her favorite corner. Then she would lay them under the coop where I couldn’t get them. I had to duct tape a fish net to a long broom handle to retrieve the eggs. I think she did it out of spite lol. But she finally started using the box.

The very first egg from my very first flock was laid yesterday. I have 22 hens and 1 rooster. I'm not quite sure who it was that laid it, but I am so proud. I was so excited when I found it, I laughed and sang to my birds until I almost cried! It's a small one, but I read that the first eggs can be small/deformed/not quite developed etc. I was just excited and wanted to share with you all!
Oh CONGRATS! First eggs are the BEST!!
