How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Five eggs today. Doing good, actually. I've had years when I got no eggs from mid-August to mid-February and thought, Tell me again why I am feeding these creatures? .... oh yeah. Tick patrol. (We have 20 hens and a remarkable rooster. Will be aging out about half the flock this spring, I think. Maybe sooner!)

Darn those Azurs I am having trouble getting them to lay in the nest boxes.

Do you have golf balls or fake eggs in the nest(s)? Do you keep them confined in the run/coop until a little later in the day so there is less chance they will lay "out?"

I guess I should ask where they are laying. In the coop but not in the nest? In the run but not in the coop? Out of both run and coop?

I have been down to 1 egg a day for the last 2 weeks. I have 10 hens - but 2 are raising babies, so they aren't laying. The rest of them are molting, and it's a rough molt for some of them!

What age do yours age out at. This is my first flock. Planning to add 2 more at the end of next summer so they will be ready to lay as my girls turn 3.

After getting two very fragile eggs that broke yesterday, I fed my chickens several cups of soaked layer pellets, with a bunch of crushed eggshells mixed in. I guess it was just what they needed.

Today, 8 out of 8, perfect eggs! I just mixed up another batch of soaked mash for them, with eggshells and oyster shell mixed in for tomorrow's eggs.
