How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

The girls gifted me with 6 eggs today! Martha's blue, both Eggers' greens and three lovely browns. So only 2 girls took the day off. My Rainbow Girls are champion layers, especially Martha the Whiting's True Blue.

And they ALL laid in the center nest box today; usually at least one or two use the corner box, but just the fake egg was in there today. Whatever makes them happy; none were broken or kicked out onto the coop floor, so we're good.

This past summer all of mine laid eggs in the corner nest closest to the door. Fall came and they all started laying in the corner nest at the far end. I still see a queue and wonder why the other 5 nesting boxes are somehow unattractive. 🤔

Guess we'll never really understand/experience "chicken mind"! I have 3 nest boxes & 8 pullets. They use the nests where I put one of the 2 fake eggs, but even a fake egg doesn't make the righthand nest box acceptable; they just kick out the fake egg onto the coop floor and keep using the center & lefthand boxes. The nests all look identical to me...

Same. Five boxes on the wall, usually only the first two get used. But there is also an "emergency" box on the floor next to the door; I've been getting 3 to 5 eggs there. And sometimes there will be an egg in a makeshift nest on the floor under the nests. A creative, independent batch I have here! 🤣

Over winter 3 to 5 daily.
Yesterday I got 11!
Today these 5...so cute, so 1 is a 1st time layer, young EE hen. See how little 1st eggs can be. ❤️

4 eggs out of 10 hens (9 months old). We are at 10 hours of visible light right now. I'm supplementing with christmas lights around the coop timing off at 9:30 PM.

my EE and black OE hens are every day.
Wyandottes and Australorps every other day.
Buffs - 1 is coming out of molt, 1 is heading in to molt, and 1 is laying sporadically right now.
Whit OE was my earliest layer, and also my earliest molter - I'm guessing she'll start laying early this spring as others are going into molt. It's nice to have a flock where hens take turns resting and laying :)
