Are your girls barred rock? Your profile picture looks like one to me. I’m just curious since you seem to be getting a lot of eggs from your 7 girls.I spoke too soon. Instead of getting 6 eggs today, I finally got another from the last girl. She was running a little late, I guess. 7 out of 7 today.
That makes an average so far this year of 6.5 eggs a day from my 7 ladies. Yeah, I'm bragging about my chickens!
Yep, they're all barred rock pullets. They're not pure barred rock, I'm pretty sure. I think they were bred for high production, crossed with who knows what. Got 'em at a Wilco farm store last spring. And yes, they are egg laying machines! Are your girls barred rock? Your profile picture looks like one to me. I have one barred rock pullet just over 6 months old. She is still a freeloader. She might have laid one last week but never got any more eggs I couldn’t link to my Wyandottes so I’m still not sure who laid the mystery egg. I hope once mine starts going she’ll be a good layer.Yep, they're all barred rock pullets. They're not pure barred rock, I'm pretty sure. The first couple of months I was getting probably a dozen double yolk eggs a week, so even then they were trying to push out a lot of eggs.
A couple of mine starting laying at around 16 or 17 weeks old. I think they were all laying by 20 or 21 weeks old.I have one barred rock pullet just over 6 months old. She is still a freeloader. Yea I think I timed it wrong they turned 20 weeks old in November. I tried to time the young ones to start laying when the older ones slowed down. I started the second round too late. Hopefully things pick up soonA couple of mine starting laying at around 16 or 17 weeks old. I think they were all laying by 20 or 21 weeks old.
Maybe yours isn't laying because she came into laying age as the days were getting short. Mine came into laying age when the days were long. I don't know if that makes a difference or not, just speculating.
That's a nice looking barred rock you got there!
