How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Finally figured out how to post a photo (I hope)! [Yes, I'm a total old tech dinosaur, with a very old phone/camera and outdated computer. 🙄 🤭]

This is the range of colors from my 8 pullets. Front row, Martha the Whitings True Blue, pinkish-brown from Jill the Delaware, olive green from Easter Egger Elsie and satin green from EE Edna. Back row, yellowish brown is Xena the Barred Rock. The other browns are (I think) Rhonda the Rhode Island Red, Pauline the Buff Orpington and Sheila the Black Australorp, (though I'm not 100% sure which of those 3 laid which brown egg).

Gosh they are pretty - I would call that back row left side egg ‘peach-pink’ coloured 💕 what a lovely mix of coloured eggs.

What’s up with my StarLink those of you with StarLink…? Conditions - wet snow falling if that is a factor, otherwise the app says unobstructed view of the sky, that’s slow in my opinion:

And Marty the brat didn’t want to go back to bed after I got her up to take her calcium - I am giving her a 1/4 tablet every other day. She marched over to the feedroom and demanded mealworms and then wouldn’t leave, so I plopped her in the crate she was in when she was moulting - she was happy to dig around and peck at whatever she could find for a snack in there. She has me well trained.

I got 4 out of 5 today. I ended up selling 3 cartons yesterday! My friend took them to a bakery that sells local eggs. It’s fun to give them to people but sometimes it’s nice to have a little cash! :D
You’re lucky to be able to give to a place that can re-sell them for you. Here eggs must be sold ‘at the property of residence’. I cannot take them to a farmers market to sell, or give to someone else to sell at their store.

Only eggs that are inspected by a federally licensed inspector can be sold ‘commercial’.

And forget about selling processed birds, they need to be processed in a federally regulated and inspected facility to sell or even give away. And one can only process birds themselves for your own consumption. What twiddly-twat….

The nearest abitoir for me is about a 2.5 hr drive away!

There used to be a mobile slaughter truck around here, I know they did beef but I have no idea if they did poultry.

I got a nice 7 eggs today from my 7 girls.

Average daily feed consumption has dropped a little with the current bag of pellets that will be finished up tomorrow. I've been giving them produce scraps and trimmings pretty regularly over the last month.

In November they were each eating an average of 0.27 pounds of feed a day. With this last bag of feed they averaged eating 0.23 pounds of feed a day. Egg production and quality hasn't changed.

I have been feeding a 17% textured layer in the side - and they go gaga for it, but I don’t like the idea of them eating just the grains and leaving the pellets so they only get a small amt of it, they do really like the 17% layer short pellets I also feed so I am not worried about them not wanting to eat them.

As for egg shell quality I have not noticed any difference from the stuff I fed last summer. Other than they do prefer this new brand. And I am giving calcium tablets to my two ladies who are laying soft/brittle shell eggs, since I haven’t found any such eggs this week I assume that is working to help them.

Does anyone else feed a ‘textured’ feed (mix of grains and pelllets)?
