I have been feeding a 17% textured layer in the side - and they go gaga for it, but I don’t like the idea of them eating just the grains and leaving the pellets so they only get a small amt of it, they do really like the 17% layer short pellets I also feed so I am not worried about them not wanting to eat them.

As for egg shell quality I have not noticed any difference from the stuff I fed last summer. Other than they do prefer this new brand. And I am giving calcium tablets to my two ladies who are laying soft/brittle shell eggs, since I haven’t found any such eggs this week I assume that is working to help them.

Does anyone else feed a ‘textured’ feed (mix of grains and pelllets)?
I'm feeding mine small size layer pellets, 17% protein, and they get maybe a cup of scratch grains to share once a day. Plus I feed them back crushed eggshells most days for supplemental calcium. I haven't heard of that textured feed you mention.

Ummmmm sorry sorry sorry! I meant to post this in another thread - gosh I feel like an idiot!

I did the same thing with a text ! The guy I sell eggs to I sent a text to meant for my niece! And at the end I said “ok be safe. Luvs ya❤️

Hahahaha duh! He must have been wonder what I was going on about !

Gosh I love a beautiful carton of eggs like this! I used to organize them by color, but then my family all takes from the same spot so all of one color would be gone at a time! 😂
You’re lucky to be able to give to a place that can re-sell them for you. Here eggs must be sold ‘at the property of residence’. I cannot take them to a farmers market to sell, or give to someone else to sell at their store.

Only eggs that are inspected by a federally licensed inspector can be sold ‘commercial’.

And forget about selling processed birds, they need to be processed in a federally regulated and inspected facility to sell or even give away. And one can only process birds themselves for your own consumption. What twiddly-twat….

The nearest abitoir for me is about a 2.5 hr drive away!
Luckily we have an Amish processor about 15 minutes away, and he isn’t licensed but all sales are cash and no record is kept. Since we aren’t reselling any bird we bring to him (all just surplus or accidental cockerels), he doesn’t have to be. $3 a bird worth the time it would take us!
Average daily feed consumption has dropped a little with the current bag of pellets that will be finished up tomorrow. I've been giving them produce scraps and trimmings pretty regularly over the last month.
I feel like my ladies have been eating sooo much! I still give them a big bowl of veggie & fruit scraps, plus a handful of scratch grains and oatmeal every day. Bonus days they get leftover seafood, cheese or expiring yogurt.
