How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

11 today. I had the chance to check the camera when I had a quiet moment at work this afternoon and noticed that Zedd, one of the silver laced wyandottes was in the nesting box a lot later than she usually does (she's an 11 o'clock kind of girl and this was at 3).

That lovely topmost egg on the right is hers. I guess that explains the lovely egg song I heard.
We had double yolks over rice for supper.

I got zero - zip - zilch today and for the last several days.

A bit of background: I have only 4 hens, the oldest I think needs to meet the stew pot as she hasn't laid since she went through molt back in June/July....she was a rescue and I think she is to old to continue laying. The other 3 are just now turning 2yrs old and they have laid well all this time.....they went through their first hard molt in October/November and just about a month ago the one started laying again......thought they were all going to bounce back but nope only the one was laying......and now again none are laying. I am totally confused as what to do as this is a first for me. I was so thrilled for a while that I didn't have to buy eggs, but yesterday I had to buy some again.

I am open to any and all suggestions.

I keep them with clean heated water(freezing temps here), their run is wrapped in plastic, their coop is deeply filled with wood shavings, they have nutrena 20% food pellets, I give them pellets soaked in warm water on the extremely cold days, I give them a couple of handfulls of cracked corn once a week and on another day I give them a couple handfuls of black fly larva/meal worms......neither of these are much at one time and I rake it into the wood shavings so they have to work for it. The coop is in their run which is a chain link dog pen butted up against a storage shed and I have the whole thing.... floor/walls wrapped with hardware cloth, and the top is cattle panels wrapped with tiny chicken wire that is covered with a heavy tarp that I check daily for damage......I never find any evidence of anything getting in.....so don't believe predators or mice are causing an issue.

I know since I took mine off of layer pellets to give them a rest I am only getting one egg a day. Mine are getting Flock Raiser now which is good for them and a very small amount of scratch grains. I have only one Muscovy that is still laying and the rest are taking a rest which I am glad for. They don't need to lay year round since I feel the rest is better for their bodies, mine are ducks though so that may make a difference. Sorry you are not getting any eggs at all. I have a couple of hens that quit altogether and are going on 8 years old but I don't have the heart to give them to a friend that would eat them as they are pets. Do you give yours any layer pellets? If I don't most of mine will not lay.

It’s natural for them to slow down and stop laying in the winter months, in another month the daylight hrs will increase and they will start to lay again.

Once they reach around 2 yrs of age they will slowdown overall with laying eggs, so instead of 6 eggs a week you will get 5 or even 4.

I have a whole slew of lawn ornaments over 5 yrs of age they lay sporadically- they just enjoy life now

Things are really starting to pick up around here. 3 so far today my 7 month old EE Carmel made her first rent payment. It’s a pale green egg which is great. We like all the colors here.

Thanks, I’m still waiting on 4 more pullets that should start laying soon, one more EE, an OE, and 2 black copper Marans I can hardly wait to see what colors they lay

What breeds are they? Dual purpose hens tend to put on some fat instead of laying eggs when getting older and enjoying too much feed/corn.
