Had to keep the girls in their coop today. It was only snowing lightly, but the wind was frigid. Winter is here at last!

My poor chookies are taking turns warming up under the sweeter heaters. It’s only -1C in the barn, but they do not like the cold.

I was just telling hubby how the chickens were slacking today !!! I usally get 15-25 eggs per day and only got 6 today

Yes, keeping warm in the cold can be extremely fatiguing, my older ladies have all stopped laying. Just my this year pullets are laying. But they will likely slow up or even stop, now that the real cold has arrived.

Poor dears! I know how you feel though, wanting to keep them warm and comfortable. My husband and I take turns going out to stay with them during the day, and it’s a lovely time. Having multiple chickens warming your lap, looking out the window as the snow gently falls… perfect winter’s day
