How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Lost one of my hens today. 😔💔
She hadn't been laying, her last proper egg was from a year ago. She had been dealing with a bloated abdomen since June or July, it would come and go, I gave Amoxicillin every time she started filling up and so I'm guessing it helped cause it went down after a bit. The bloating was actually going down the past few days. But today I let everyone out and she was slow and acting sick. I took her in and treated her, after a couple hours she started really declining so I took her outside and laid her in the yard, since I felt she was about to pass. She passed no more than 10 minutes after putting her out there. 😢
So sorry to hear this as it is always a heart break to lose any of our flock whether a hen or rooster. Most all have names and are family.

I'm so sorry. 🫂
I'm so sorry you lost your hen. I dread the day that I lose my hens Darlin and Little One. They are my first and favorite girls. Best wishes to you.
I’m so sorry for your loss Tookie. It sounds like she was very loved and well cared for to have reached 10 years old. :hugs

You gave her a wonderful full life, and that’s the best any chicken owner can hope for. It’s still sad to part with our sweet companions even so. I wish they could live so much longer.
Had six most since fall.
@Tookie I am sorry!

Thank you all, much appreciated! :hugs

@Winderdear this actually was a different hen and not the one who is 10yo. This one wasn't even 4yo yet, I adopted her along with three other hens because their previous owners got complaints about having them. 😢

12 eggs today! Just about everyone who is laying laid today. :love
My ducks gave me 7, so they all laid. My chickens gave me 5, and that's about how many layers I have right now, although my 10yo didn't lay today. Pretty sure that's all who I have laying. I need to add to my flock, I've lost so many the past couple years.

Which do you prefer? Ducks or chickens If you had to choose one?

Oh dear, I’m sorry I misunderstood. It’s so sad to lose them, whatever the age, but I know how painful losing them young can be. Even when you do your best, some things just seem like they’re beyond human control. I’m very sorry you lost her ❤️

8 eggs yesterday, I think, I have been so busy I haven't been counting properly, I have a new basket in the house and I just kinda put them in there as I gather throughout the day.

It can't have been only 8 though, because I typically get between 10-15 from 17 layers. Who knows!

1 more chick died yesterday. Away from the brooder plate, stretched out. Legs stretched out and neck stretched out. Of the 5 that are left, the 3 FBC Marans look super healthy and hale and big. The 1 Ayam Ketawa is looking like possibly failure to thrive, as it's wings are over it's body -- but from my first flock I've had that before and had them live. So time will tell there. The Vorwerk chick left (disappointed because I ordered 2 and 1 died, the one yesterday) looks alright. Somewhere between the Ayam Ketawa and the Marans.

At this point, as wild as it sounds, the Tractor Supply chicks I've bought have all been SUPER healthy. Every chick I've bought via the mail have been... a mixed bag.

That's just my anecdotal evidence.

We are going to be getting a bin:

To put in the ground of the brooder, fill it slightly less than the rest of the brooder with bedding (just an inch or so) and put the water IN THAT. Then, if it leaks, it leaks into this bin and not into the floor of the shed LOL

This costs me only $33 so I'm happy with that lol

Doing that today.
