How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

Got 8 today! 5 duck, and 3 chicken. My 10yo hen laid yet again, and I think my next oldest hen (9yo) might have laid, it was either her or my Easter Egger.

Last year it was an 8 foot rat snake. Previous years they have eaten most of my chicks and eggs.

Ugh! The first year I moved here (SE MO) my DH and I killed two enormous 6' black rat snakes that had been living under our hen house. They were almost as big around as my leg! (I was skinnier then, lol). I wondered what kind of insanity I had moved into!

Last year I killed a couple of two-footers. And I'm not even sorry, they had no business taking up residence in my hen house.

One small one last year was living inside the nesting box under the bedding. At least I've never seen anything venomous.

2 eggs yesterday.

Basil came out with a proper egg with shell, thank goodness for that. I was sweating big time about her no shell egg the day before. Continue with the calcium tablet.

I checked her all over again for lice and mites to explain the strange feather condition she is having, but I can not see any lice/mites.

I stayed out extra long and saw the egg thieving crows show up.
I got the egg laid out in the open just in time. I came back later and saw two pieces of bagels. The crows left them for the ducks. I think they are trying to trade their bagels for eggs now.

There is an understanding there between the crows and your ducks, they cut you out of the deal...shame on them..
