I’m curious to know if I’m having a problem. My first 6 hens started laying on July 3rd at exactly 20 weeks. However the eggs appear to be small. It’s there a problem or is it because they just begin laying? I started them on Lonestar 20% layer feed and I have been adding 10% of the Lonestar chicken scratch in with the layer feed as I feed them each time as the instructions call for.. Please let me know if I’m doing anything wrong are is this their starting process. Thanks everyone for the help.

Oh, then my hen must be doing the napping like your ...I will have a word with her what she did last night that now she is falling sleep on her job😄
I have two pullets that are laying age and I know one of them is consistently laying in the nest box after a week of negations.

I found a hidden nest site with 3 eggs on our AC stand (roughly 3ft high) and called a meeting (passed out treats) with the girls as I put the found eggs and scattered a few treats in the nest box. I explained to the pullets that "This is where the eggs go, not all willy nilly up high on AC stands, they'll fall and crack."

A friend was over and witnessed this meeting I had with the pullets and she laughed so hard she had tears in her eyes. She said, "I think you've cracked. Good God! Why didn't I record that"

Next day, two new eggs in the nest box and none at the hidden site. :D Sometimes they just need a bit of direction.

Completely normal. New layers have smaller eggs and it can take awhile for them to get bigger.
