It's been a loooooong molt, this year. I haven't seen a single new egg that didn't come out of a cardboard carton in nearly two months. Yesterday, there was a sign of hope. It looks like things might be getting started again!
After a three-day layup where I couldn't get out to the coop and had to depend on DS to check in on The Girls, I pulled four big, frozen-solid, red-brown eggs from "The Den," last night. They're all from my Sapphire Gem pullet - large, red-brown and frozen solid ... but hey, eggs again! Now if we can only convince a couple more of these free-loaders to start earning their keep again, I'd be much happier!

Gathered 10 today. I know at least half are from yesterday and I found a duck egg that looks like someone stepped on it. It could have been the grandson. My husband found a nest of 8 eggs in the pump house and I had to toss 1 so 17 today

I ended up having to toss the rest of the eggs that my husband found because after I sat down I got hit with a foul stinch and decided that the eggs were the culprit.
