How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

19 today, my hen that was extremely ill (I figured she’d die) has really turned around and started putting on weight - she gets to stay in the heated feedroom at night to help her keep her weight. Anyways, she started back laying today, unfortunately. I really wanted her to not start back up until Spring. But she laid one of her pretty blue eggs. She will be getting some extra proteins so she can continue to put on weight.

So glad she’s doing better! My sick hen bounced back and went right into laying as well. I felt the same way about it, but I think her hormones saved her. It got her crop moving again. I hope your girly continues to do well!

After Twiggy and Spindly went broody, I had to cage the nests in to keep the others from laying more eggs in their nests and set up a new nest in the corner under the ramp.

Thanks to all of this, retrieving eggs is now an athletic event, requiring that I squat down low, squeeze in as far under the ramp as possible and reach out with a long serving spoon to scoop them up. I fear if a neighbor sees me fetching eggs, they might call out the gentlemen in white coats to nip over and examine my head.
