How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I need to go check again but 3 right now. My son left the gate open after dropping off the truck and something got in the yard and attacked my chickens. My RIR Darlin is in the house in a tote and I am trying to figure out what to do for her to prevent me from losing her but she's drinking water and she did eat a little bit while I was at work so I am happy for her. What's really bothering me is she feels cold when I touch her.

Sorry to hear this. Sounds like shock, I use some water bottles with hot water in them wrapped in a towel to give sick chooks some warmth, always make sure the animal can get away from the heat. I would keep your hen in a dark warm quiet location first 24hrs. Limit activity for at least a week.

Not much you can do unless there are specific injuries you can see.

Maybe your son needs to drop by and assist in the wee chook’s care when you’re at work.

Rule on any farm - close the gate. Livestock is valuable.

Limit activity for at least a week, I use a dog crate or even cardboard box if they are quiet and don’t go flapping around.

Thank you for the advice. I'm going to put her in my bathroom and close the door so she stays warm.

Just ensure she doesn’t get out onto the cold flooring. I have used a towel over top of a cardboard box for my escape artists, if my dog crate is in use.

Good luck keep us updated

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I have a crocheted baby blanket over the top and I decided to put her in my bathroom with the heater on and she's warming up a bit. I'm just really hoping she makes it because she's one of my first 2 chickens I got. She's also my flock sweetheart. I told some people that if they knew her name, all they had to do is come in the yard and talk to her, then pick her up and walk away with her. That's how friendly she is.

Seventeen yesterday, four more today, although I'm embarrassed to admit that I haven't collected since Friday because of the ice. It's pretty hard to maneuver over it with my knees in such bad shape. Luckily, the nesting cave is a virtual refrigerator, so everything's kept pretty cold, right now. I only have ten potential layers and a few are late summer pullets that haven't reached POL yet. I guess it's safe to say that our egg drought is officially over. It's about time!
