How Many Eggs Did You Get Today?

I got 6/7 because I was lucky to find the Buff Orp egg out in the yard.

Poor girl is at the very bottom of the todem pole AND just started laying. Not sure if the others even let her in the nestbox so I built a second one....but she may not know to use it yet. She lays nice Buff Orpington-colored eggs (I can tell them apart from the sex-links) and today's egg was kinda tall and skinny, but almost full size. Her first few eggs were of course, quite small pullet sized.

Queenie still hasn't laid an egg, although I saw her in the new nest box today. I saw her eating from the feeder, but I noticed that she was first to roost. I'm inclined to think something is wrong with her....may bring her in for observation.

Yesterday I got 7 eggs first thing that morning and my husband checked the nest yesterday afternoon about 5:30 and found 2 soft shell eggs in the nests. Well, that is nine eggs in one day......I only have 8 hens and a rooster. I know I have one rir pullet how hasn't stated laying as of yet, so I am thinking maybe she cranked out the soft ones or maybe not

I know when my girls first started laying their first eggs would be soft or very small but two in one afternoon? It seems odd to me. The flock gets layer feed, grit, oyster shell, a small amount of scratch each day, and kitchen scraps. So it seems they are getting what they need. Any ideas what caused this. The flock will be 7 months on on the 24th.

This morning, I only had 3 in the nest (I have been getting 4) and rir getting back in the nest!

6/12 so far. I went in a tiny bit early, there's still time but they've probably done all the laying for today.

Well done Twig, Eowyn, Ginger, Appleblossom, Rhiannon and Morganna!

I did a count last night, Rhiannon is our best layer! Shame she's only one of the smaller hens...
