My Cayugas first few eggs were a lovely dark black and have since faded to a very light color. Is that normal? I liked the dark ones! They get plenty of good food, oyster shell and vitamins in the water....View attachment 2028492
Color is similar today, still have streaks where something has scratched the color off. Also my other ducks egg shells are virtually indestructible but this one seems more fragile since there are some dings in it.
From what I have read about Cayugas that is normal. My Cayugas first few eggs were a lovely dark black and have since faded to a very light color. Is that normal? I liked the dark ones! They get plenty of good food, oyster shell and vitamins in the water....
Yes, same thing has happened to mine as well, the mor they lay, the lighter the egg. But when they stop laying and then start up again you will likely have a few dark ones to start withMy Cayugas first few eggs were a lovely dark black and have since faded to a very light color. I think some of it depends on ages and breeds. My younger chickens are almost an egg a day in those that are laying even the breeds with lower production, but in my older hens, only certain breeds like my RIR is laying regularlyThe last week I have had 3 or 4 everyday now! My little Astralorp continues to lay one per day first thing in the morning. With six hens, I wonder when I will have 6 eggs in one day for the first time? I also do not think all 6 of them are laying yet. Everyday is exciting to go see what I can find.
