I agree with you in that the cheap prices in the stores and the slow economy could be causing the decline in purchasing farm fresh eggs. I noticed in the store on yesterday that eggs were on sale for $0.89 a dozen. That is REALLY cheap. Although we chicken owners know that our eggs are better than store bought eggs. But when you have people trying to save every penny and trying to make it in this economy, $0.89 a dozen for eggs is what customers are looking for.
