2 days ago we sold 3 dozen chicken eggs. 2 for $3/dz and 1 for $5. (Well DS helped them with their horses, so.....) We usually sell both chicken and duck eggs for $3/dz. Just never that many in 1 day!

KuntryGirl... have you ever triend raising the prices on your eggs? Why do they sell for so cheap there? Maybe cause a lot of people have chickens from where you are?

Today, zero....

My husband and I both have co workers who would like to buy our eggs. We have one person with a standing order of a dozen a week and she offered us 3.00. So that became our price. Fresh eggs seem to sell for anywhere from 1.50 sold roadside to 3.00 to 5.00 sold elsewhere here in Clark County Washington. Since it is convenient for my co workers and my eggs are so fresh they are always excited to get a dozen.

We are eating alot though, we just got our chickens this year and are not tired of eggs yet. We are not selling enough to cover our feed costs especially in winter.

Right now I'm not selling eggs and instead saving the to make deviled eggs for my contribution to two celebrations we will be attending in the next week. I'm also using a dozen eggs in three gift baskets I'm giving to family, but those will be the eggs they lay the days before Christmas so they are amazingly fresh. I know I'm counting my eggs before they are layed........but.....

I also use eggs as gifts other times of year, as a small thank you or, for instance. I supply my mother and (pregnant) daughter with all the eggs they need too.

I made a HUGE tray of deviled eggs for Thanksgiving and was amazed how fast they disapeared. Obviously I have to hard boil more than an 18 pack. I am thankful to BYC that I now know how to hard boil fresh laid eggs, they make the best tasting deviled eggs ever.

Well, I work for a small company in NC and the people who buy the eggs are all city folk who probably wouldn't recognize a rooster from a hen. But they like the idea of getting good fresh eggs. I've had comments from some who said they or their spouses would make comments on using them in their holiday cooking, especially things like custards, meringues, cookies, etc. A lot of good comments about their morning eggs too. And a few wondering why they can't make deviled eggs out of 'em. I have to explain to them that eggs you get from the grocery store have been out of the hens for six weeks or more by the time they buy them and the eggs have had time to 'age', meaning to lose their nutritional value but are easier to peel. I tell 'em where they can go online to get hints on how to boil a fresh egg. Most who try the methods report success.

But here in our supermarkets, even WallyWorld, the price of free range organic brown eggs is from $3 to $5 a dozen, with WallyWorld being $3. EggLand's Best go for well over $4 a dozen even in FoodLion and BuyLo. Harris-Teeter a more upscale supermarket gets $4.99 for theirs. Even when we go to the local farmers' market in Statesville brown eggs typically sell for $3 or more. And this is in an agricultural state.

We're planning on adding another 17 pullets in the spring bringing our flock up to 36. I'm sure I'll have no trouble at all selling all I can take in to the office. And my wife told me last night that two people at the Post Office were asking her for eggs because they know we raise egg layers. Hey, it pays for the feed but it'll never pay for the Taj Mahal of Chicken Coops that I built though...

I have never tried raising the price. But........I do know several people who charge $2.00 per dozen and they are having a hard time selling their eggs. Their fridge is stocked with unsold eggs. I live in a small town in the south and people just won't buy eggs that are any higher than that. They don't understand (and don't care to understand) that fresh farm eggs are way better than store bought eggs. They are just looking at price. Now, we all know that our eggs taste WAY better than store bought eggs but these days, people are looking at the price. Not comparing my eggs to Wal Mart but Wal Mart sometimes has eggs on sale for $0.95 (cent). It's hard to compete with that and I know my eggs are better than Wal Mart.

I sold seven dozen this morning,I live in a rural area and with so many people out of work if I raise my prices I may lose my regular customers,so I'm staying with $1.50 for a while yet,it pays the feed bill and my customers are happy with the price,I rather stay at my price than to send my customers to wally world for those (others),,yuck
