Well, I would say that you are a wonderful neighbor! I know that they appreciate you for that.
Thanks for saying that. While that may be true for giving eggs to my neighbors on the south side of us last weekend, I gave eggs to the neighbors on the north side of us today, who, incidentally, were the ones who "inquired" of the Town Zoning Enforcement Officer what the restrictions may be on chicken keeping in our town. That prompted a letter from the Zoning dude telling us we were in violation of the zoning laws. We didn't know about the zoning law (which is actually silent on the issue of residential chicken keeping) before we got chickens and weren't too happy with that neighbor's phone call to the town without so much as a courtesy conversation with US.
We spoke with the neighbor (after speaking to zoning) and worked out an agreement. We'd keep the chickens in the coop until 7:30am daily and she'd be agreeable to having chickens next door. The zoning guy doesn't care one way or another. We made her put those sentiments in writing to the zoning guy. I figured a dozen eggs once or twice a year might keep her happy (or at least give her less footing to be able to mount a subsequent complaint!).
