How many eggs do silkies expect

We are new at the whole egg hatching event. My aunt suggested that we collect several eggs then introduce them to the hen. So we have collected 6 over the last few days that were warm when we gathered them. So the thought is that we would put them under the broody silkie, Mama. Tonight. They are from Buff Orbington, a Barred Rock, other silkies.

I have been reading the forum for awhile but haven't found anything about introducing other eggs to a broody hen. The Roo is a Cochen. We have a total of 9 hens and 1 Roo. If this is a bad idea let me know!!

I introduced some egg to my broody silkie pile of hens today, LOL. I was not so careful about it. The eggs were cold and I opened the lid of the nestbox, held the most pecking one by her wing and pulled her off the nest, sent her off to eat and drink, and gently moved the two gentle ones and brought in some fresh hay to build a nicer, deeper nest hole, and nudged the two gentle ones back on the eggs. They set right to, hooking those eggs in with their beaks, settling the hay to their liking. Within five minutes the meanie that pecks was right back on the pile too. End of introduction. Hopefully yours goes about the same, it should. Good luck!

What can we expect out of the Buff Orbington egg with a Cochen Roo?

I don't think introducing eggs to your Silkie will be any problem at all. Most broodies will sit on ANYTHING...including golf balls, pecans, etc. If an egg is laid any where near my Silkie when she's broody, she grabs it with her beak and pushes it far under her.
