How many eggs per year will young heritage hens lay?

They lay pretty well but my limited experience is that Bourbon Red and Royal Palm hens get broody as soon as they get a decent clutch. The Black Spanish don't seem to be as broody and are laying machines. I don't know anything about the others but I am betting Steve does.

It depends on the bird. Our best layers are the Beltsville Small White - they start laying right before Christmas and are still laying strong going into June. They outlay all our other breeds combined.

On the other breeds if you collect the eggs every day and they don't go broody you can expect 40 to 50 per hen. If they go broody around 20+

I have a royal palm now that has about 23 eggs in her nest for about 5 days now. She has gone in and laid on them for 3 or 4 hours one day but has not shown any interest in them lately. Should I take them out and put in a incubator or see if she will go broody?

Our young hens average around 60-80 eggs a year in a 5 month span then we break them up. Our numbers are taken by how many eggs came from that pen then divided by how many hens are in the pen, so we don't really know how many each hen laid but we have a good idea.

A turkey farmer down the road swears his lay 100+ every year, but he lets his lay until they are done. around September or so.
