How many eggs should I put under my silkie?

Welp, today is hatch day! And we have 4 out of their shell and alive and peeping from 7 viable eggs after the clears were tossed. Between my morning check on the broodies and high noon, 2 dead chicks were found and the three extra broodies were moved to broody prison for breaking. Obviously the chicks didn't do well as they did when they were eggs from broody soccer. We are still waiting on one last egg to pip and zip. If it turns out to be a dud 4 is a good number to add to the flock and 6 out of 7 hatching is a very high success rate. The lesson learned thing for me would have to be "its ok and desirable to have multiple brooders in the flock but break or separate the extras about 5 days prior to hatch".
