Just wondering.......

I got some new hens from an abandoned house this week and got my first egg this morning

! Then another this afternoon. Do hens lay once or twice a day? Just trying to figure out how many are laying

Just once...but you do get an oddball once in a blue moon but it's VERY rare. If it helps you can put food coloring at the top of the vent area and you can tell who's laying. OH, don't forget to put gloves on

I'm sure my ladies will enjoy that...... So I guess they can lay their one egg at anytime of the day?

The normal cycle is every 24-25 hours, depending on the length of day and the amount of daylight. They will pick a time of day they like and usually lay around the same time every day.

I have 3 adopted hens and only on of them is laying, but she uses the same nest and consistently lays after 2 pm. I am waiting to see an egg from the other two!
