If I have a chicken that is a mix of say Silkie, RIR, Jersey Giant, and EE, and lets say I want to breed it back to being a pure RIR, how many generations of using a RIR rooster will it take before the offspring start breeding true again? I heard 8 generations down the line of breeding offspring back to a Pure RIR, the 8th generation will start breeding true?

Also, this strain of RIR, at the 8th generation when it starts breeding true, will it still have some of the characteristics of the Silkie, the EE or the Jersey Giant, or will all of these have been bred out as it has been bred back to only a RIR roo over 8 gnerations? For example, is it possible that some of these pure RIRs in this strain will now be bigger than many other RIR strains as this strain has Jersey Giant in it's history? Or maybe this strain will tend to be more broody than other strains of RIR as this strain has Silkie in it's history?

Thanks in advance.

Anyone? does the question make sense? Is it a daft question? Is it a noob question?
