If you have a guard donkey how does it work for you? Do they do a good job at it? I have been reading about them. I think donkeys are so cute anyways. But to know that they have a dual purpose is great IMPO!

Thanks Wendy

We have 3 donkeys to guard our goats. They are great! They are one of my favorite animals. They always come up to greet us when we walk in the pen. They are also very smart. They HATE dogs.

LOl... thank you, thank you...

I have been toying with the idea of getting a donkey and have been struggling as to how I can justify it. I love donkeys, and had them around a lot in the past as companions to horses, but I don't ride any more. I would like to keep goats to and expand my chicken flock, so now I can justify a donkey too.... lol... Thanks.

i had2 mini donkeys that lived in with my birds ! Never had anything get them in side the fence

When i had them tied out in my lawn a dog came and tried to attack my female donkey savannah and the dog whent to go jump on it from behind and right when it was about to land on her she kicked with both of her bck legs and kicked the dog 10 feet back and up a hill . it ended it with 5 broken ribs , she got extra hay and carrots that night !!!

unfortunitly savannah got colick (sp) when we boarded her at a friends house and past away R.I.P savannah she was only 3 years old

I have a guard mule. She will go after anything like a cat, dog, etc. Only problem is that she will kill a chicken too. But they are apart by a big fence.

How loud are donkeys? Early in the morning I hear very loud EEE-AWWWs with horrible "screams" that have to be coming from 1/4-1/2 mile away. I imagined that it was a donkey or mule giving birth - but after a week now I think someone just got a new animal and earplugs or hearing loss.

I do think that it is something pretty unusual. I imagine that it is a fairly large animal (mule? horse?) to be making such a noise - it seems to be louder than the bulls (but I probably notice it more because it is so startling and out of place).

Whatever it is I'm pretty sure it is not happy.
