You still have to think of inclement weather. They will be spending more time in the coop than what you may initially think so you want to make it as accommodating for them as you can. I have thirteen chickens and they are all able to free range a good portion of the time but I still have birds that will stay in the coop at different times and that is not including when they are in the nest box.
