How many hours of sleep do chickens need?

Honestly, he's an Iowa Blue and he's audible from the neighbor's house more than a quarter mile away. Good thing they like chickens there!

So we should not turn on light bulb in their cage so they can sleep?

Absolutely!

My chickens go to sleep after sunset which is around at 6:50pm these days. Then at 8:30pm I turn on the light bulb and give them food. I switch off bulb between 6:30am and 7:00am.

Why would you wake them up to feed them?!

They should have feed available every daylight hour.
They need at least 8 hours of darkness.
