ok as far as the sexing thing goes.....what hatcheries do is fill all of the "pullet" orders and then whatevers left goes into the straight run box. This will change your 50/50 ratio......and yes, you will get more roos....but in this case I think whoever sexed her birds screwed up majorly....she needs a second opinion and you should also find out what "method" the "sexer" used......cuz apparently its not a good one, or he sucks lol.....not to be mean.....but i really doubt this......thats more like how many pullets youd get if u ordered ONLY roos..........ask her if she actually ordered st. run?

Wow, this is just scarey! If the sexing is correct and she's not able to sell the roos and instead has to cull them that means that she's paid roughly $56 for each pullet.

Kinda puts my $3 - $5 chicks(all sexed rare breed pullets) into perspective as cheap chicks.

OMG I think my hubby would just walk away and never return! Doing something like that without discussing it with your family member before hand. You know what they say about Carma!

It could be that she only has 30-sh hens, IF... she bought them as "chicks" from a place that does sex them.

Think about it, if they had already pulled out the hens and this is what was left, than it makes sence that only the "mistake" girls would be in with all the males. I'd be really intrested in how she bought them and where (example did she see 500 chicks $1 EA and assume they were as hatched or all pullets or?).

Either way, I don't wanna think about the smell going on right now

It is of course quite possible that the friend who did the sexing does not know what they're doing. (Likely if these are leghorns; unlikely in the extreme if these are sexlinks)

OTOH it is also quite possible that when you pay $1 per, and buy on impulse (taking the feed store's word that they're straight run or pullets, or just *assuming*), you may actually be getting all layer ROOS -- for which a 2% hatchery sexing error rate (giving you about 30 hens) would actually be about right.

Either way, oy

what an impulsive purchase!! Now she has lost all that $$$ and ended up with all those Roo's. That's what she gets!
I think she needs to find out what's really wrong with herself and stop trying to fill a void.

If i were her husband i would have had her baker acted for buying that many!! And in the basement, my god that's a health hazzard. SHE NEEDS HELP!!!!

LADY HAS ISSUES..........

The poop!!!!OMG the poop!!!!!! Clothes pin anyone????
