How Many Lay Boxes?

How may lay boxes should I have in my coop if I'm going to eventually have 23 chickens total?

Also, how wide should they be?

I would go with at least 4 boxes. I have 7 boxes for 30 hens and collect eggs from all 7 each day. Sizewise I would go at least 12 x 12 x 12. I like to go higher around 15 or 16 inches high so that I can pack in plenty of nesting material. Some of my boxes are a bit oversized at 14 x 15 x 16. I place carpet remnants in the bottom of the boxes and use hay or wood chips for nest material. Place a lip board at the front edge to keep in nest material.
