How Many of us are in Wales

That's handy - I bet your chickens are well housed! my work involves drawing plans so I have all sorts of ideas....all of which are beyond my carpentry skills! Fortunately we ended up scavenging a fibreglass porch roof which I managed to convert - its not pretty but I think it'll work!

I used my carpentry skills to convert an old garden store type thing into a chicken coop. And then put it on top of a fruit cage so its about 2 mtrs of the ground with a single roofing batten ladder leading up to it. Only foxes with excellent climbing skills need apply. Not the most attractive thing i,ve ever made but practical. I did say i don,t really bother looking at coops/plans but looking at the coop page here i saw the "hoop coop" design. Im going to make one soon as poss. My second wind turbine is almost complete so id better finish that first.
Do you draw plans manually. I do i bought a drawing board from the technical college when i was doing a course there. Great for actually working out how things are going to work etc.

Sounds good & safe! How many chickens have you got? We've just got the two - but heard some cheeping from under the broody one earlier so fingers crossed we'll have some more soon.
I use autocad in work - the drawings aren't as appealing as hand drawn but the 'undo' button is just the best!

Sounds like a good selection; I am a complete novice and know very little about breeds. I inherited 2 chickens from distant relatives in essex who decided chicken keeping wasn't for them when the lawn got ruined :-D my gain, especially as they gave us the coop & feeders etc. we added to these with 2 ex battery hens. Two have died along the way leaving me with a ginger one and a large white one (I think it might be a sussex) who's sat on the eggs...excuse the ignorance!

The breed thing goes on and on. The chicken in your profile pic is almost certainly a Warren. Im a keen veg gardener and the chickens do play havoc sometimes but they also do good. You did well getting the equipment i guess they were sure they would,nt be needing them haha. Don,t worry about not knowing things thats why were here.

Thanks for your help - i think i know what they both are now! I am so grateful for all the info on this site it's really helped. Got two chicks so far & I've taken the day off work tomorrow 'cos I reckon that's when she'll want to get off the nest (which I've learned from the site) & I can move mum & chicks into the new accommodation - it's so exciting! :D

Happy to help. Hope you get lots of hen chicks
