Hi it went ok - we've got two chicks I'll try to add some pics, they grow so quickly I think I'm going to have some work expanding the run this weekend!
Is the "hoop coop" design within your skill set as people are saying these days. There is some suitable wire mesh on ebay as you can see im a bit obsessed about hoop coops. Good news about the chicks. My rooster poulets getting more rooster when caught his sister to give her some meds he went for me
I could probably manage to build a hoop coop but think it would take up too much space; the chicken enclosure is made up of 6 panels of (scrounged!) Heras fencing to stop them escaping the garden (and also eating the veg), so is about 4m x 8m, in which I've got the main coop which came with the hens, plus the nursery one with a run that's only about 1 x 1.5m. I'm hoping to let them out over the weekend while I'm about to see how the other hen reacts - she pecked them initially.
My neighbours reckon that ones a rooster - hope its just one cos we can keep him!
A good rooster is worth keeping i,ve had some good ones over the years. Are you going to feed the chicks on chick crumbs that have coccidiosis treatment in them i ask because i,ve just lost two poulets. to coccidiosis and im just treating a third.
Thanks for telling me - I've just checked the bag & it doesn't say that it's medicated I shall get some that is. As I'm a newbie I'd seen it mentioned but wasn't sure if it was just an illness in the US as most of the posts I've read are from folks over there. Cheers for the heads up - I hope the poulet you're treating gets better!
The coccidia parasites just about everywhere as far as i can tell. The birds develop immunity as they age (at least that what the research i,ve read says) its a particularly nasty illness in young birds there can be a lot of damage done before its noticed an then it can be too late. I hope im not tempting fate but the poulet seems to be much better im syringing coxoid dilution into it morning and night.
