How many of you are breeding colored Sebastopols?

OOps, I guess I hijacked it here too! Sorry Vickie! But thank you Patty! Both of mine are smooth breasted, so looks like I need to get a curly breasted to go with them?

Not to throw a monkey wrench in, but my no curl girl (just a few long feathers on her scapular and back) and my smooth breasted gray gander produced a totally curly gray goose. So, ya never know! The parents are Holderreads stock.

My male sebbie from last year is smooth breasted. He is from pipsandpeeps. Ihave no clue what the 2 that just hatched will be yet other than colored. It will be exciting watching them feather in over the next several months.

Banter - my male sebbie was in with my buff dewlap toulouse pair. I am getting eggs from the female buff starting this week.

I am going to toss caution to the wind and see what a few of her eggs do colorwise as I don't know which male would have mated her up to now. Everyone is separated now and she is cleaning out for her matched gander to mate her.

A friend of mine who raises Sebs had a Seb x Toulouse.
It was actually quite pretty.

Here's my first saddleback goslings!!!

The small one ..."La Petit Four" is out of my yearling saddleback "Cherie-Pie"whose eggs are quite small.
The other 2 whoppers are out of my 2 year old white goose "Chiffon"
who...BONUS...turned out to be a saddleback gene carrier and popped out 2 SB's!!!

Banter, do you have a picture of your non curly girl? It sould like she would be considered a smooth breasted if she has any curls at all. My 2 have no curls at all. In fact, I sent Dave H. a picture of the blue gander thinking maybe he was a pilgrim and there had been a mixup in the shipping. He is really light, almost all white. He said he came from really nice quality stock and thought he could produce some beautiful goslings if mated to a curly goose. This year I did not have a goose to spare him, but should hopefully next year. I'll see if I can find pixs of my 2. I really wish I knew more about the colors.

THANKS TO MISS PRISSY FOR THE BIG WATERMARK IDEA!

Seemed like the thing to do since people like to steal my pictures.

Patty...how can one have a totally smooth Sebastopol?
I've never heard of that before.
I understand the hybrid Sebs aren't going to be all curly but totally smooth and what is the purpose of using a totally smooth one???
I'm also wondering why anybody would send you a totally smooth without informing you of this in advance.

Here's some pics of my smooth breasted SB gander (on left)
He has some fluff on his back and on this thighs.
Pict. under 1 yr. old.

You should join our Seb forum.
I'm trying to gather and post all the info I can on color breedings. I've made some sticky posts with info on our "breeding" forum.
We're all learning from each other.
Rather unchartered territory out there when it comes to colored Sebastopols.

Basic rule of thumb on producing any color...
if you breed color x white (or white x color) the offspring will be all white but they will carry a recessive color gene.
Breed the white offspring with the recessive color gene to a colored bird and they will produce some colored babies.
Get it?
