You're so lucky to have a boat! I'm always stuck on the dock.

Oregon really does have awesome outdoor opportunities! I'm going to try clams... but the last time all I ended up with was one cockle...found over a foot under the mud in newport. LOL

Yep my hobby in Angling as we brits call it.

We have different species over here which dont take a lure or another fish, sure we have perch, pike, Catfish & trout but we also have Roach Bream Tench & Carp these fish normally feed off the bottom where we ledger or float fish with Bread , luncheon meat, sweet corm , Maggots, worms. we ground bait the area site back & wait for a bite. We dont normally move from that spot all day.

We do it more to relax as we dont kill & eat our fish. They all go back. This makes our task more difficult that most as the fish have seen all our tricks before.

The goal for a British Angler is to improve his best weigh for each species

Over the last years we have had Polish people come to England to work. In their spare time they have fished our waters.
In Poland they eat what they catch. They tried to do the same over here. The fish are owned by the guy who owns the lake & to remove one is stealing. The police are normally called when they are caught.

I loves fishing! Best past time ever. Biggest fish I caught was a 45 pound Black Drum off the surf at Malique Beach by Padre Island. That was the last time I got to fish with my Dad before he passed away. He helped me bring it in because it broke my reel. I actually ran into the water to grab it so it didn't break the line. Fun times! The biggest fish I caught off a pier was a Stingray that was about 3 foot across. It was enormous!

Pics of me with the drum are embarrassing, so I can't post it.

I do love catching me some cats. One of the best freshwater fights you'll have is a Flathead Catfish. Ferocious! Lol.

Embarrassing? OH COME ON! You can see the hideous one of me at fish camp a few posts back. Fishing isnt a glamorous pass time. @Reg, that carp is amazing! So pretty too.

I didn't see anything embarrassing.

Wish I could have been there.

A couple years back, well maybe three, I took my DIL fishing to a local lake. The locusts where singing and flying around the trees on the edge of the lake. We found a spot where a tree hung out over the water and parked the boat as best we could. We were catching everything from bass to bluegills to catfish along the shore line. I caught a rather large carp. Now I wasn't interested at all in keeping it to eat, but DIL, who is from Thailand was so excited over that fish, when she found out she could have it. I don't ever remember catching so many fish in one day. We must have hit the peak for the locusts that week. We did go back the next week, but did not so as good as there where not as many locusts that day as the week before, and not as many fish biting. Wish my wife was more excited about fishing. Egg Rookie, those fish look terrific to me. I notice some old drying racks in the back ground. I saw some in use when I was up to Alaska two years ago.

Yes those are drying racks. I will tell you though I had NO part in hanging around and keeping bears off while they hung. I had my share of seeing grizzlies from the boat and that was enough!

I am really getting the fever to go fishing... Is fishing also an addiction like keeping chickens?

I joined the chicken addiction thread today, but I really need to go fishing.

I hate winter.

I would like to try that. I have never been in the great white north in winter. August was as late in the year that I have been. Too bad too cause my friends keep sled dogs and the ride isnt really fun in summer on a wheeled contraption!

Ice is too thin here in So Ohio for ice fishing, but there is some open water with easy access about 25 miles away below a dam. Fish kind of collect there. Actually getting rain here tonight while half the lower 48 is under winter weather advisory. We are just south of the freezing ice/snow line.
