How many of you have done this

Our coop is sorta small, so I can't go in it, we have lots of doors tho. But when I'm in the pen, I lock the gate and sometimes I forget that I lock it

Well onetime I locked it and my mean roo came to attack me, I turn around and head for the gate. As I'm running I think that the gate is open (which it is not) I run into it at full speed..............

I didn't, but DH locked me in!!! He walked by the door and thought I had left it unlocked. I was gathering eggs & he thought I went to the house.
I hollered and hollered and thought he did it to be funny (he sometimes has a warped sense of humor). I finally thought I'll just wait because he will come let me out when he gets hungry and wants me to fix something. Then I realized I had just fed him, so it would be a few hours before he would be ready to eat!

I managed to find a piece of metal that I could wedge into the crack of the door to pop open the latch. When I came back to the house, I told him that was NOT funny...he didn't know he had done it, but then he

!!!! It was kinda funny, but I tried to act mad about it, but couldn't when he was laughing so hard that he had tears running down his face!

It is just one more thing that has happened to me that he gets to tell people about. He thinks I am very entertaining!!

I did, sort of. We had a 1,200 steer that got really mean. The coop is in the cow field and I had started locking up well after dark because the steers sleep (usually) in the lower field. Well I got out there and all of a sudden he charged me--big black steer coming out of the night is not a pretty sight! I got into the run and locked it, but he starte pushing on the wire so I crawled thru the window of the coop (so glad that the one on that side opens!) and was able to get away from him. The coop is SOLID so I was safe, but it was locked from the outside and the steer was still pawing around out there. I'd brought my phone with me because he'd gotten so nasty so I was able to call the neighbor who came down with the quad and chased him off. When we butcherd a week later I found out he still had a testical, which explained quite a lot. Not a very good moment, but I've never had better steaks.

I lost that battle, but won the war.

Oh KittyMomma that is funny, only cause you didn't get hurt. I never should have read this thread now I know I will lock myself in.

It's funny now, actually it's been funny since he's been in the freezer.

Dang thing chased me over the coral fence the week before and my cell phone got hung up and fell into the trough. We've run (small scale) cows for a long time and he's the first one I've ever run from. I was sure getting sick of my DH's jokes about it and felt a lot better when we found out he was a bull in disguise.

I hung a caribener clip that that I use to lock the door latch on the pull cord, the pull cord that opens the gate from inside. I was working on another part of the coop/run when my youngest and my FIL went in to talk to the chickens. The clip fell down in such a way that it jammed the door latch. They were only there for a minute, but I had to remove the latch from the door to let them out, because the clip was stuck.

Hmm...never thought of locking myself in the coop. I think i will hang a wire snip in the run, just in case. My family is leaving on vacation for 1 month this summer. Sometimes it gets windy here and the door slams shut. I would hate to be locked in there, with a bunch of little cannibals, for a day, let alone an entire month. If I have a snips handy I can cut myself out...
Thank you...

Haha I've wondered about this in my case my 10yr. daughter did it. After drilling it into her to make sure and lock the coop door and pen door and double check it. It was our first months with our chookies and being backed up to the forest I was abit anxious but we've since relaxed and don't lock the coop door just the pen.
Anyway we were making sure all were tucked in since it was pouring and colder out,the birds were 4wks. or so and my kid went in the house and locked the coop door on the outside.Good she did what we told her but she spaced the fact that I was still in there! I didn't notice til' after I was done admirering them for awhile. So it's pouring out and I'm banging away on the door ,trying to use my telepathy to my DD

. That didn't work of course and as much as I hated to I ended up having to break the new coop door window(plexiglass) to get out!! When I got in the house and told her thanx, her and Dad of course laughed and had thought I was workin on something in the garage and had thought nothing of all the banging I'd done trying to get their attention. Kids!!

YUP! I've done that twice. And I had to holler until somebody heard me! Hubby has now installed a release wire for me to pull......
