How many roosters? Bad first buying experience X-( !

Out of sight is best, but that is not always practical. I would have at least some space between the pens so the boys don't try to wing dance the girls.

I have some space to work with, thank goodness. Boy, I'm learning a lot in a hurry. I do appreciate the timely help available here! Hopefully I can pass the favor on soon enough when I get good at this :-)

I just wanted to say thanks again for the help; my birds and I have been pleased with our new set up. Here's how we ended up - the bachelor's pen is working fine, the Silkies have their own cozy hutch, I moved a trio of Ameraucana into the big coop, and I have four Orpingtons growing out with some broiler birds who go to freezer camp next week (just the Cornish cross) in the third coop. They all get out during the day, and you can see that the Americaunas prefer to hang out in the compost bin.

What color are those Americauna Roosters? I see some black ones - the ones in the compost? It's odd that he mixed the colors on you. Unless you asked for two different colors...

somehow I have turned off notifications in my settings, sorry I didn't see this sooner. :/
Those black birds are a trio I bought from a local person who had more birds than his neighbors were comfortable with. They are also supposedly Americaunas, and they do have pea combs, slate legs, muffs, no wattles, and the hens lay blue eggs. Ok, so one girl lays bluer eggs than the other, but that's close enough for me :).

Sorry about your bad experience. The seller could not have been a "show breeder" of Americauna as there is no such accepted breed and no shows for them. Here are the breeds and varieties of the American Poultry Association. I wouldn't necessarily advise anyone to go seeking yet another breeder of birds labeled as such.

Good Ameraucana and/or Araucana birds are somewhat rare. You might contact the clubs for these breeds and get some recommendations. Lots of Easter Eggers and other mixed birds being sold as such. Caveat Emptor

Yes, I hope you didn't pay too much for them. Sometimes, people try to pass off Easter Eggers as Ameraucanas since they're worth so much more $$.

Have you got them all sorted out yet? Still looking for more hens?

Thanks guys, I have learned a lot through this whole thing! I'm not officially looking for more hens, since I have the two blue egg layers, the Silkie hen, and four Buff Orpingtons growing out, but you know how chicken math goes. I might not say no to some EE hens or older pullets ;-). I definitely don't want more roosters though - five is more than enough!
