how many times do hens go broody?

i was wondering. and its ok to let the mom do all the work right? that is what i have done befor "without knowing it till later"

They'll gather eggs then sit for 3 weeks, then raise the chicks...then they'll start laying, gather eggs and start all over again...A determined broody could probably do it every couple of months.
