I am thinking about getting royal palm turkeys, but I want two toms. How many hens do I need to keep these pretty boys happy? Also , how much coop space per turkey. I plan on having a coop and then a large yard for them. Probably 10 square feet per bird if not more. When I am home I also will be letting them out to free range, but this will probably be on weekends and evenings in the spring in summer when the daylight hours are longer.

We have four turkeys and two toms, one tom is domestic the other is a wild turkey. The domestic tom cannot breed the turkeys for some reason so we picked up a wild tom that the turkey fellow stated will breed our hens. The wild tom was too young last year and didn't know what he was doing, I hope he figures it out this winter as he's a beautiful bird. Our hens brooded for 3 months trying to hatch his eggs and nothing happened.

The trouble with these two toms is the wild turkey harasses the domestic turkey. I'm not sure if this is what would happen with two of the same breed of toms. The domestic tom has lost all his weight due to being harassed all the time, but I can't put him in the pot as he's a pet now. Hope to expand the bird coop and put the domestic tom with the chickens that he grew up with.

I look forward to hearing others with more than one tom in the coop as this is my first year of raising turkeys to breed for our own use.
