How many wine makers do we have here?

I'm still here. Got kinda busy with the animals. New babies, new babies, new babies.

No, you didn't scare me away. Nothing can run me away. I'm a beast.

I don't scare. My dad, who was a military man taught me that.

I started a batch of grape wine over the weekend. I tasted my muscadine wine and it is to die for.

Hey, I never said don't do want you want to do! And no drama from me. I'm glad your wine is turning out well. Wish we were closer so we could taste each others wine. Would be interesting, specially considering our differing techniques.

Military brat huh - me too!

As far as Jesus walking the earth, if he ever existed, I'm sure he didn't make wine. Back then, people didn't even know what yeast was.
Whether this Jesus guy drank it or not, wine has been around for a long, long time. The Greeks celebrated Bacchus, god of wine, long before Jewish folks broke up into Messianic sects. They didn't know why it worked (that's what the discovery of yeast figured out), but it did work and they often unintentionally inoculated their wines by including a bit from the last batch in the new one.

Also from Wikipedia:

Archaeological evidence suggests that the earliest known wine production occurred in what is now the country of Iran[1] around 7000 BCE, and Georgia [2][3][4] with other notable sites in Greater Iran dated 4500 BCE and Armenia 4100 BCE, respectively. The world's oldest known winery (dated to 3000 BCE) was discovered in Areni-1 cave in a mountainous area of Armenia.[1]

Otherwise, your posts are full of good info! Keep it up!

yes, it's been around a long time. Early traders had bags made out of goat skin and carried wine and mead around to trade and drink. My post wasn't meant to suggest that wine wasn't available, only that they didn't know how they made it!

Well, how's the wine coming along? You do taste it periodically don't you?

I tasted it when I racked it, but I haven't been opening the container to taste, thought I wasn't suposed to disturb it?

My wine making may be short lived though, I have been drinking more then normal (several glasses per week about 3 or 4) and it is causing major gout flaring!

Hope I didn't scare everyone away - not that there are many who visit this site, but still . . .!

Pear/cranberry wine is fabulous; trying to save some for Thanksgiving. Hope everyone else's wine is turning out great too.

No you did not scare me, just been busy putting in fall garden ,working on the boat and cleaning coop and etc.
Is your Pear/Cranberry recipe on here? Like to try it .
