OK so I have been following this thread for like 3 years now. I bought a 1 gallon wine kit last year for cherry wine. how ever I have yet to put it all together. I know i'm making it out to be harder than it is but i;m not all to confident about it. I read on here that HarCider is easier and was wondering if I should practice on that. If so- Can i juice the apples with an electric juicer and B- does anyone have a simple recipe for a beginer?
Cider can be a disappointment because it takes several kinds of apples to make a "balanced" drink. If you want to try something simple, then you might want to try orange. It doesn't require any additional acid like some fruits, and the end result is pretty nice. We have a five gallon carboy of it right now (only half left though).![]()
Use 3 lbs of oranges for one gallon. Use the grated zest from one or 2 of them, and the juice from all of them (I have a citrus juicer). Add about 1 1/2 - 1 3/4 lbs of sugar (dissolve thoroughly), top up to one gallon with water. Add yeast and an airlock. Should start to ferment in 24 hours.
It will end in about 2 weeks, then you wait until it drops out (cloudiness goes away). The nice thing about orange, it clears well and is drinkable very soon. It's also cheap, so if you screw up it's not a big loss. Plus, the resulting wine is very pleasant (mine is a tiny bit sweet, and I add Perrier to it to make a very nice "sparkler).

juice 3lbs of oranges and zest 2
Dissolve 1-1/2 lbs of sugar in 1 gallon of Water
Add juice and zest, sugar water and wine yeast to carboy and place airlock-
let ferment for 2 weeks then just wait til it clears... Then what?

THEN you can start drinking it. or you can let it age a bit ( a couple of months won't hurt it). If you start to drink it early, you will probably find it has a slightly yeasty flavour, which tends to go away in time.
This, BTW is the simple version.
Persimmon wine is truly delightful. Very light and delicate. I wish I had more - the last fruits were given to me by a friend.Great info, got all of it laying around the farm. This was my next endeavor....My persimmon tree here in the northwest is a Fuyu. Looks like this.
