Since the weather is generally too nasty for outdoor activities, I thought I'd share a puzzler- it's making me even nuttier than usual!

This gizmo/doohickey/doomaflatcher appeared in MIL's estate. It was in a box containing a table-top electric grill. I don't know if that's related or not.

It is solid wood, so it's not a baby rattle or maraca, The handle is glued on/in and doesn't move. There is a flattened area on the bottom, so it can stand handle up. It shows no signs of heavy use. Pics include a tape measure for the size reference.

MIL did not do needlework or much in the way of crafty stuff- she did cook a lot. So do I, but I still can't identify this miserably mute doohickey!
