valley springs, calif.
My DW loves seeing the chickens free ranging, but they have picked the fig tree next to our patio to hang out under during the heat of the day, and will often take a stroll on the patio leaving behind evidence of their walks.

So far we've just chased them off the patio when they show up there. They leave and typically don't come back that day. So far we've only had to chase them off three times, and they've been roaming in the yard for months. Not a bad ratio, I say. Now let me knock on some wood that they stay away from teh patio!

Oh, and I make sure to NOT feed them anything near the house! Food either goes in the chicken run, or near the chicken lot. I don't have fig trees, only an apple tree beside my patio, and it's surrounded on two sides by holly. I don't mind them laying under the holly, but that's their boundary line.

I really wouldn't mind them on my patio. I just wish they would stay out of my garage. I also think they're the ones hiding my tools.
