How much are we missing

I would have stopped. I once watched what I thought was one of those karate movies, they played this violin music at certain points, and it was just absolutely wonderful. I later found out it was Itzak Perlman! BTW, I hate karate movies!

Good post, Joe!

wow, that is a wonderful experiment! I always try to embrace people in general, regardless of race, religion, sexual preference, social status and more. It is true , we as humans tend to think the worst of someone because of their differences. They must have thought," strung out musician, in subway , playing for ???"

I wonder how it felt to be him in those moments.

Thank you for sharing this story, it was touching and disturbing but not surprising!

Awesome post, Joe! That is a positive message if ever I heard one. I see no sadness or fear in it, only the chance for each of us to learn and take note in our own lives.

May I use it, sir?

As an amateur musician myself, I always stop and listen to street musicians, and throw a dollar or two in the case/hat/whatever. If they have the guts to stand up and play in public, they deserve a few minutes of my attention. Washington DC and New Orleans have both been fun listening to street music.

I think so many times in our daily lives were are so focused on the must dos, should dos and will dos that we miss what is going on in the moment. I think one of the highlights of our vacation last summer was watching street artists in Boston Market. They were incredible, doing break dancing, and the level of athleticism was just amazing! We also listened to a variety of artists in the subways, almost universally bad.

But I think we miss so much every day. I was walking to school one day with the foster boy next door, and I pointed out some deer. I saw them almost every morning, and he walked with me many mornings. He saw them, and in an awestruck voice, said that he had never seen deer before. It made me happy I could share it with him, but very sad that no-one else had shown him. They are a road hazard here, there are so many of them. Beautiful, particularly a young buck on a misty morning, but in no way unusual.
